And club vice-president Pavel Nedved insists he is progressing well after suffering a thigh injury while on international duty.
But the Portuguese superstar is not going to be rushed back by Juventus as they risk exacerbating his problem.
Ronaldo suffered the injury last Monday after pulling up in the first half of Portugal’s 1-1 draw in their Euro 2020 qualifier with Serbia.
Juventus fans are hoping he is back for the away first leg next Wednesday in Amsterdam.
However, it sounds as though that could be too optimistic at this stage with the club reluctant to put a definite date on the 33-year-old’s return.
Ronaldo was absent from tonight’s squad as reigning champions Juventus won 2-0 away to Cagliari in Serie A.
They host rivals AC Milan on Saturday evening too (5pm), which will also come too soon for Ronaldo.
Nedved was pressed on the player’s condition and he confirmed Ronaldo’s fitness will be judged every 24 hours approaching the first Ajax game.
“Let’s allow Cristiano Ronaldo to work and recover in peace, there’s no need to rush him,” the Juventus vice-president told Sky Sport Italia.
“We’ll evaluate the situation day by day.
“He is progressing well, but we want to protect him and this is why we are not setting a date for his return.”
